Amidst the effort to resettle our Afghan allies, the standard United States refugee resettlement process has now reopened, and Nashville is anticipating the arrival of hundreds more refugees from around the world over the course of the next six months.
We are pleased to announce that NICE has been approved to resettle 250 refugees through September 30, 2022, in addition to 99 more Afghan evacuees. We expect refugees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Somalia, Syria, South Sudan, Myanmar (Burma), and other countries.
We know that Nashville’s strength is found in its richness of diversity. As we work together to welcome and empower more of our new neighbors, our city becomes increasingly vibrant, our communities flourish, and our cosmopolitan economy grows.
