On Friday, January 24th, the new presidential administration announced an immediate end to government funding for refugee families who have recently arrived in the United States. This is a measure beyond the suspension of the US Refugee Admissions Program that had canceled the incoming flights of the refugees who had already been vetted and approved to travel to the United States.
This is a sudden and unprecedented halt of the government funding that provides food, housing, job assistance, and basic needs to the refugee families who our country has already committed to helping, and to whom this support was promised. These are families who are currently in our care, and this shocking news puts them at serious risk.
With this immediate cutoff in government funding, we now need your support to provide critical services to our new neighbors.
NICE is currently caring for 36 recently-arrived refugee families—courageous and resilient families who were forced to flee their homes, and who dream of a peaceful new life.
These are families like the Nimas from Iran. After a rigorous screening process, they were approved to resettle in the United States. They received assistance with rent, food, and basic necessities while being supported by NICE and adjusting to life in their new country. Now, the Nima family are proudly U.S. citizens, contributing to the greater Nashville community and economy.
Even though the government has abruptly put an end to the lifeline that was promised when they arrived, we will not abandon refugees. With your help, we will make sure that all those who our country has committed to aid will receive shelter, clothing, and support finding employment.
Please stand with us and make a donation to provide emergency assistance to refugee families in Nashville.
